Apology not accepted

By now, everyone should have heard Todd Akin’s offensive ridiculousness saying that women have magic anti-rapebaby juice. No. A victim is almost twice as likely to become impregnated from rape than she would be from an instance of consensual sex. Of course, his stance (ignorant or hateful) is just one step away from saying “well, if you got pregnant, you must not have been raped.”

Akin has apologized for his remark, saying that he used the wrong words.

No. I do not accept his apology. It was not his use of the word “legitimate” that offended me, though that was part of the ridiculousness.  My offense comes from his lies or at best total ignorance of biology and using “science” or “medial opinion” that is patently false and backed by an agenda to make policy that affects everyone but only reflects the views of a few ignorant people. Since he has not decided to educate himself, he is not forgiven.

ETA: Akin is a fucking coward. He disabled comments and rating on his video.

For an apology, it strangely obscures what he’s apologizing for. He says, “The fact is, rape can lead to pregnancy”, but he doesn’t say “and I was wrong to imply otherwise.” Is he hoping people will forget exactly what he said?

He wouldn’t be apologizing if he hadn’t been called out and come under pressure to quit the race. He’s not being worried for the people he insulted and upset, he’s worried for his own prospects.
